Logic has played an integral role in the development of Islamic thought. Even though it predates Islam, Islamic scholars did not merely borrow from the works of others but rather developed and refined the science to fit with their objectives. Sciences such as ‘The Fundamentals of Islamic Jurisprudence’ (ʾUṣūl al-Fiqh) and ‘Islamic Philosophy’ are but two examples that utilize the principles advanced in the field of Logic. This course will provide a basic introduction to Logic that is taught in the Islamic seminaries. Therefore, it will serve as a steppingstone to more advanced courses that will allow the student to further explore this subject. This course is instructed by Shaykh Abdulrahman Cherri on Tuesdays at 6 pm EST and will be broadcast live.
