This course examines Islamic Law (Fiqh), the Book of Purity and the Book of Prayer.

The Qur’an and Ahlulbayt (a) placed a great emphasis on laws and rulings. The Almighty Allah created us and prescribed for us rulings that take us to the path of success in this life and in the Hereafter. The Imams of Ahlulbayt (a) highly encouraged their students, companions and followers to study Islamic law and gain a good grasp of Islamic rulings.

This course, Islamic Law, offers introductory lessons on Islamic laws and rulings. The rulings discussed in class will be based on the edicts of the majority of scholars, and some hadiths which serve as the basis for those rulings will be discussed. Furthermore, the process by which scholars derive Islamic rulings will be presented at a basic, introductory level. The primary text for this course is Fiqh al-Imam al-Sadeq (a) by Sheikh Mohammad Jawad Moughniya (this text is in Arabic, but knowledge of the Arabic language is not mandatory for this course). In the year 2017-2018, we covered the Book of Purity (Taharah) and half of the Book of Salat (Prayer). A total of 46 lessons were presented in the year 2017-2018. This course is instructed by Sayed Mohammad Baqer al-Qazwini.
